Jorvik Viking Festival: Monday 20 to Friday 25 February. Recognised at the largest Viking Festival in Europe, this annual festival is a city-wide celebration of York’s Viking heritage. Taking place over the half-term week the festival has a programme of family-friendly events, lectures, guided walks and battle re-enactments so there is something for everybody ! 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Edvard Munch (1863–1944), one of the towering figures of modern art. Already hailed as a once-in-a-lifetime show, Munch 150 will be co-hosted by the National Museum and the Munch Museum, both in Oslo.
The event film will go behind the scenes to show some of the process involved in putting the exhibition together, as well as touring Norway to provide an in-depth biography of the artist, who lived from the mid-19th century right through to the German occupation of Norway in the Second World War.
